Born 2 B shy?---- Jerome Kagan

Here is a short introduction(edited) from the chapter entitled "born to be shy?" by jerome kagan from the book "States of the Mind"

"Monday's Child is fair of face,
Tuesday's Child is full of grace,
Wednesday's Child is full of woe,
Thursday's Child has far to go,
Friday's Child is loving and giving,
Saturday's Child works hard for a living,
But the Child that is born on the Sabbath Day,
Is bonnny, adn blithe, and good, and gay!

Put to the test, this traditional nursery rhyme would be a poor predictor of a child's personality or temperament. However, its underlying notion-- that we are somehow born to be "full of woe" or "bonny and blithe"--turns out to have some basis in biology. Neuroscientists adn psychologists are producing a growing body of evidence that one's predisposition to view the glass as half full or half empty, or to be shy or outgoing, may have biological determinants.
But biology is not neccessarily destiny. Kagan emphasizes. Parents, society, and we ourselves have a hand in shaping the way we react to what life throws our way."

This introduction struck me.. especially the last paragraph..
After first 3 mths last yr, there were 50 members in Guitar Ensemble, most came in without neither guitar nor musical background.
i really marvelled at the improvements that we've made... many of us did nt give up just because they did nt have musical backgroud... all of us strived together.. initiated guitar pract on our own.. even our teacher-in-charge, Mr. Ng, was impressed.. i am impressed myself, by the attendance on last saturday where its optional.. many turned up..
(p.s. it may nt be a good analogy.. but it was just my tots when i read that part.)
