just had GP JCT today in the morning.. after which i ran abt trying to photocopy some stuff.. bleahx... after which went to whitesands to eat =).. then the rest went off and shuyan and i wentto popupar and library.. borrowed two chi books.. reminded me of the times i was in secondary school.. used to go to the PR library to borrow chinese books coz the chi bks in my school library were nt interesting at all, the english ones were rather appealing... when i was a librarian, it sometimes puts me off when i see so many of them that are of the same author.. haha.. then when i came to JC, i started to read less.. perhaps its due to the heavy work load.. after dropping one sub and maybe it was my sis and shuyan.. i started to read again.. a good start? haha perhaps.
oh, bad news.. i've nt finished reading the book on the states of mind and its due one the 1june.. bleahx.. so i flipped to the long-awaited chapter.. OF LEARNING, MEMORY, and GENETIC SWITCHES.. by Eric Kandel.. i've been looking forward to this chapter ever since i've borrowed this book.. the first two sentences strucked me..
" who would we be without our skills and our memories? Our very identities are bound up in the historical sense we have of ourselves and the stories we tell about ourselves..."

frontal lobe: motor coordination + planning of strategies and goals parietal lobe: speech perception and body sensations. occipital lobe: vision temporal lobe: hearing, smelling, aspects of memory storage

The Mechanisms of Memory Storage (this is quite nice)
-- Declarative memory involves memory for facts, ideas adn events that can be brought to conscious recollection. -- Nondeclarative memory is a change in behaviour tt occurs as e result of experience, where memory is expressed thru performance and w/o conscious recollection of past episodes.
"Memory for both declarative and nondeclarative forms of learning is commonly divided into at least two stages: a short-term memory that is very unstable and lasts only minutes & a long-term memory that is stable and self-maintained and can last for days, weeks, or even years. In both declarative adn nondeclarative memory, repetition is commonly required to convert short-term memory to long-term memory. >> the transition from short- to long-term memory requires a spurt of new protein synthesis. Once the memory has been acquired-- once its been in a stable store for more than an hr-- memory can maintain itself by using the protein that are already available."
hmm.. how i wish i can switch on and off the protein synthesis whenever i want to study.. hehe.. wishful thinking..
oh ya, my roommate changed again.. i've been in the same room for 10 years but my roommate kept changing.. it used to be my bro when i was young.. then slept with my sis for a while... now its my grandmother.. haha..
